My lips will shout for joy, when I sing praises to you; my soul also, which you have redeemed. Psalm 71:23
Has God given you a passion for music? Do you love to raise your voice in harmony with the Lord? If so, join us in prayerful song! Whether on stage with the choir or in the pews, you will find joy in music that proclaims God’s glory, celebrates the Gospel, and gladdens the soul.
We are blessed to have a choir of gifted singers who eagerly give their voices to God in moving and powerful song. Music minister Julius Feria skillfully leads the choir and is responsible for all music at Sunday service and at special occasions in between, focusing on traditional and contemporary styles. Our worship leader Robby Clayton also shares his talent by leading the congregation. And when he sings solo, his rich voice fills the church with golden tones of praise.
Minister Julius came to LRBC in 2017, bringing with him an amazing and inspiring backstory. Born and raised in Vietnam, he grew up around music and learned to master the piano. As an adult he found financial wealth working as a professional pianist/keyboardist and holding a high-powered position in international relations. Then everything changed in October 2013 when he gave his life to the Lord. From that time onward, he followed a path that God provided, a path that steered him away from his lucrative career and led him to a simple life in America as music minister at LRBC and a student at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. The change amounted to a meager but joy-filled existence with lots of challenge for the struggling student still grappling with English. But to Julius, the new direction was clearly God’s choice, for the decision came with the peace of God’s blessing. From the start, Julius felt comfortable at LRBC where the people are like family and the leaders teach the uncompromising truth of God’s Word. Relying on God’s providence, Julius has rejected anything that might take him away from his current course and detract from God’s peace in his heart. When life gets difficult, he prayerfully recalls a verse: “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” (Matthew 6:33). That verse expresses what he tries to live.
Julius approaches his ministry with faith, passion, and a keen understanding of music, directing the choir with skill and energy and playing the piano so it almost stands up and sings! In addition to traditional church music, he loves gospel music and enjoys a good blues tune.
Julius married his lovely sweetheart Hiem-do in 2015, and they now have two precious children: Jemimah (nicknamed Vannie) and Josiah (nicknamed Olive). Julius is at peace leading his family to know and trust Jesus and walk faithfully in the Lord. The motto Julius lives by is, “But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15).
